A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR:
While attending a writing seminar in a library, I was given sixty seconds to close my eyes, think up a story, and pitch it to the group. My mind began to race. It is not easy to think up a story in sixty seconds – let alone one good enough to pitch. I started to think about the types of stories I liked to read as a kid in the library. I liked fantasy stories about ghosts, monsters, goblins, and anything else that could be considered disgusting, and thus, Fenrik the Troll was born.
Production of the film version of Fenrik the Troll was a breeze. The producers and I were able to obtain a talented and competent cast and crew. Energy was positive and spirits were high. There were no major problems on the film set,
and minor problems were few and far between. We were able to film everything I wanted and then some. I even wrote additional scenes for us to film.
Now that the film is completed, I am very excited to start submitting Fenrik the Troll into a variety of film festivals. We will be aiming to get the film into festivals specializing in children’s, family, comedy, fantasy, creature, and silent films.
I want everyone involved with the film to succeed, and an award from a film festival or two will make everyone’s resume that much better.
Long Synopsis
Fenrik is a hungry troll disturbed by a noisy ringing bell. He discovers that the bell is coming from a girl riding a bike and she is carrying a basket full of delicious muffins.
In order to fill his hungry belly, Fenrik devises a series of traps to get the muffins, but the girl surprises him with a better choice.

WINTER PARK, FL, OCTOBER, 12- Full Sail University Student Productions announces that Fenrik the Troll a MFA thesis film is complete and ready to begin the festival circuit.
The short film was shot over a five-day period in July, using the Sony F65 cinematic camera. However, pre-production on the film began months earlier culminating with the intense shoot in Florida’s unique climate.
“Several of our scenes had to be shot outdoors,” co-producer of the film, Justin Prince said. “So you’re dealing with the Florida heat. It was well over 90 degrees everyday. But, the really challenging part was the rain. Florida has a very rainy summer season. We were prepared for it though and had several protocols in place to ensure time wouldn’t be lost when the storms did roll in.”
Fenrik the Troll is a family comedy with plenty of laughs as our titular troll encounters a series of misfortunes, on his quest to capture a little girl and her basket of delicious muffins. The film was written and directed by Mike Hale, a native of Atlanta, GA. Hale wanted to fuse together the zaniness of the cartoons of his childhood, with the real world setting and look created by live action. Hale is now eager to see how audiences receive his film. However, he also hopes all those involved in bringing his creation to life can benefit from the film’s life post release.
“I’m very excited now that the film is completed,” Hale said. “I’m ready to start submitting it to film festivals and see the type of response it gets. We want to get this film into a variety of festivals especially ones specializing in children and family comedy, fantasy, creature and silent films.
“I want everyone involved with the film to succeed and for this film to be accepted into festivals and possible win an award from a film festival or two will just enhance the careers of all of us who worked so hard on this project.”
A private screening for friends, family and crew of Fenrik the Troll will be held the afternoon of Oct, 29th with the time yet to be determined. Anyone planning to attend the screening is asked to RSVP by contacting the film’s co-producer Tori Abram-Copenhaver via email at vabram01@gmail.com.
